Body Mass Index (BMI) is a quick screening number that relates your weight to your height. It’s widely used by doctors and fitness forms as a starting point, not a diagnosis.
The formula
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²
Example: 70 kg and 1.70 m → 70 ÷ (1.70 × 1.70) = 24.2.
Height in feet and inches?
Many people in Pakistan know their height as 5’7″. Convert it: 5’7″ = 67 inches × 2.54 = 170 cm = 1.70 m. The BMI Calculator handles this for you.
Standard adult categories (WHO)
- Below 18.5 – underweight
- 18.5 – 24.9 – normal range
- 25.0 – 29.9 – overweight
- 30 and above – obese
Some health bodies suggest lower cut-offs for South Asian adults because health risks can begin at a lower BMI, so discuss your result with a doctor.
Limits of BMI
- It doesn’t separate muscle from fat, so athletes may read as overweight.
- It isn’t designed for children, teenagers or pregnancy.
- Waist size and other checks give a fuller picture.
